From mid-April to mid-May, Lucas County comes alive with thousands of redbud trees blooming around a 72-acre lake at Red Haw State Park. Visitors and photographers come from miles away to enjoy the fairy-like wonder that the beautiful purple colored blossoms bring to the park.

Lunch on the Square
Enjoy the perks of small-town Iowa and join us for Lunch on the Square. This community-style picnic is held on the last Friday of each month from May through August. Attendees can enjoy live entertainment while chatting with fellow community members.

Chariton Farmers Market
Enjoy a stroll through the Chariton Farmers Market and discover locally grown produce, homemade baked goods, and handmade items. Our Farmers Market begins the first Thursday in June and is held every Thursday through October. Each week brings new goodies as well as surprise demonstrations, free recipes, and more.
Step back in time and enjoy live music from Chariton's Community Band. Bring a lawn chair and claim a spot around the Larry J. Clark Memorial Gazebo, located on the northeast corner of the square. Free popcorn and lemonade are served each week.
