Chariton Area Chamber/Main Street is proud to feature one of our local contributing businesses in the monthly Small Business Spotlight.
This month, we are featuring J/J Welding, a fabrication and repair shop that works on anything from farm equipment to trucks, to custom staircases and handrails.

What is your job title and role?
Jake Ruth, Owner & Jen Ruth, Office Manager.
How long have you been in business in Chariton/Lucas County?
We have been in business for about 4 years and Jacob is the original owner with hopes that one of our boys might take over someday.
Describe your business
J/J Welding is a fabrication and repair shop that works on just about everything. We specialize in trailers, farm, and construction equipment repair to custome staircases, handrails, and vehicle accessories.
Why do you do what you do?
I went to college for welding and always wanted to start my own shop.
Was there a specific moment or realization where you made the decision to start your own business?
I worked in my uncles welding shop through High School and College, welding came natural to me and I was always handy at fixing things. Starting my own business just seemed like the right thing to do after years of fixing and building things out of my garage on the side for other people.
What inspires you to keep at it each day?
I like the day to day challenges of each project and the gradififcation I get from my customers always makes it worth it.
Why did you choose Chariton for your business?
This is where I have resided with my family for the past 9 years. I wanted to keep it close for the kids and give back to our own community.

What are your biggest challenges as a business owner?
Keeping prices as fair as possible for my customers in this economy while still making sure I can keep the doors open.
What are your biggest rewards?
My customers and my family.

What will people get from your business that they won't get anywhere else?
Good quality work & honesty.
