How long have you been in business in Chariton/Lucas County? Are you the first owner or is it a family/generational business?
Bob Lockridge and his parents opened the first location in the 1940's in Promise City. Afer Bob's passing in 1981 Dale Housh was hired to manage the business. Lockridge expanded to Unionville, MO in 1988, Centerville, IA in 1998 and Chariton, IA in 2006. During that time Dale and his Jill purchased the company. The Housh family still owns the company today. Dale and Jill, along with their children Clint, Caleb, and Courtney Power currently run the business. Son-in-law, Drew Power is a salesman.

What are your biggest rewards?
The biggest reward for us is the people. We are inspired daily by our staff and customers. We take great pride in providing our employees with a very competitive wage and benefits package. We have a few employees still working today that were here in 2006. Our employees are the face of Lockridge, and we couldn't be more thankful for the great employees we have had over the years. We have built some great relationships and friendships with customers over the years. Those customers make coming to work easy.
What will people get from your business that they won't get anywhere else?
Why did you choose Chariton for your business?
We chose to come to Chariton in 2006 because we recognized an opportunity to expand our footprint and provide the community with our products and services. We are very grateful to the Chariton community for welcoming us with open arms. The past 18 years have been very rewarding, and we are looking forward to serving the community for years to come.
What are your biggest challenges as a business owener?
We have faced many challenges over the years. There have been times when we could not fully staff our team because of a lack of available workers. The 2020 pandemic was very challenging as I am sure everyone knows. We faced soaring prices and supply chain shortages. However, as we further away from 2020 prices and supplies have both returned to normal ranges.

I think what sets Lockridge apart from our competitors is our service. Everyone will be greeted when you walk into Lockridge. If you can't find what you are looking for, please ask one of our employees. If we don't have the item you are looking for, we will help you find it. Our goal is to provide a warm, welcoming environment for our customers and employees.

"Thank you, Chariton, for everything you have done for us. We look forward to serving the community or years to come."
-The Housh Family
